Individual Counseling

SUD Counseling services in Bellingham, Washington should be fun, friendly and tailored to each clients needs. We have always specialized in substance abuse counseling and offer many different approaches to help with whatever sort of problems may be causing undue hardship in your life. Many of our clients simply need individual support weekly with a well trained cousnelor who can help you work toward your goals.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, Acceptance and Comittment Therapy, Motivational Enhancement, Internal Family Systems, Lifespan Integration, DBT.

Couples and Family Counseling

We work with families to help them understand how to best support their loved one through addiction or mental health recovery. Family therapy can be done with or without the primary client present.

ClarityMHR also has a few counselors who love and enjoy working with couples. Couples counseling usually surrounds building new communication skills, emotional closeness, and repair after a rupture.

Court Approved Evaluations

A mental health or addictions specialist is available to evaluate and diagnose DSM5 disorders, make recommendations and referrals for treatment, and prepare court approved documentation.

Group Therapy

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) MON WED FRI 5:30 - 7:30pm
  • 3x per week group contact Monday-Wednesday-Friday 5:30-8:00pm
  • Intensive Outpatient is traditionally for the person who has difficulty maintaining sobriety without strong weekly structure and support. The client may transfer directly into IOP from a residential program or start with IOP to work on establishing sobriety while remaining in your community. IOP focuses on providing the client with a valuable set of skills to establish sobriety while giving regular support through therapeutic group process multiple times weekly.
Recovery Education (Level 1) TUE 5:30 - 7:00pm
  • 1x weekly group contact Tuesday 5:30pm – 7:30pm
  • This level of care is for the client who may not be in active addiction to drugs or alcohol but who has shown troubling signs that they may develop them without intervention. This group is often where a client will be referred after a DUI or other substance related issue to learn all aspects of healthy living to divert from the onset of future addictive behaviors.
Advanced Recovery Skills (relapse prevention) THU 5:30 - 7:00pm
  • 1x weekly group contact Thursday 5:30pm – 7:00pm
  • Relapse prevention is often a step down from IOP to help a client move into longer term recovery. This group relies on mindfulness training and regular therapeutic contact to help a client learn the skills necessary to remain clean and sober. Mindfulness training when used in conjunction with good community support (like AA meetings) has shown to be more than twice as effective at helping to maintain sobriety long term.
Mindfulness Training TUE 6:00 - 7:30pm
  • 1x weekly group contact Tuesday 6:00pm -7:30pm
  • Closed 12 week mindfulness group, focusing on building mindfulness skills for relapse prevention and overall increased wellbeing. Group sessions will include meditation during the group process, homework, and regular accountability and growth as a cohort.

DBT skills group TUE 2:00 - 4:00pm

  • DBT skills follow 4 modules to build core mindfulness skills, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. 
  • Originally desinged by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat borderline personality disorder, this treatment is effective for stabilizing multiple conditions including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self- harm and addiction.
