Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a structured mental health and addiction treatment program. It offers intensive care without requiring an overnight stay, providing a middle ground between inpatient and outpatient care. PHP is ideal for patients who need a high level of support but do not require 24-hour supervision. This program is particularly beneficial for those experiencing severe symptoms that can be managed in a less restrictive setting than inpatient treatment.

Participants in a PHP typically spend several hours each day at a treatment facility, receiving a combination of therapy, medication management and other support services, which can significantly aid in their recovery process.

Key Features of PHP

  • Structured Schedule: Our adult PHP meets Tuesday–Friday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. (four days per week). Our teen PHP for ages 13–17 meets Monday–Friday, 3 p.m.–7 p.m. (five days per week). This consistent and structured routine helps patients establish a sense of stability and predictability in their treatment process, which can be beneficial for those dealing with acute symptoms.
  • Multidisciplinary Approach: Treatment involves a team of professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and nurses. This diverse team gives patients comprehensive care addressing all aspects of their mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Comprehensive Care: Services include individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and medication management. This holistic approach supports the patient’s mental, emotional and physical health, facilitating a more integrated recovery experience.
  • Focus on Stabilization: PHP aims to stabilize patients in acute distress, providing them with the skills and resources needed to manage their condition. The program emphasizes developing coping strategies and resilience, empowering participants to handle stressors independently.

Schedule

  • Adults: Tuesday–Friday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
  • Teens (ages 13–17): Monday–Friday, 3 p.m.–7 p.m.
  • Psychiatric visits: Mondays, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

For referring providers

PHP may be a good fit for adults and teens ages 13–17 who need more structured support than weekly outpatient care, including people transitioning from inpatient treatment. Clients receive support for mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or both, and return home after program hours. An evaluation determines whether PHP is the appropriate level of care.

To discuss a referral, call (360) 676-4485 or use the chatbot on this site to connect with our team. We respond promptly, and a real person can text back when needed. You can also direct clients to the PHP application; a referral is not required to apply.
