Programs like Alcoholics Anonymous have been around a long time. They have stood the tests of time, helped countless people find sobriety and live better lives. However, the 12 step philosophy is not for everyone and there needs to be good alternative approaches to recovery.
My personal exploration into alternatives first lead me to neuroscience, then to meditation training, and ultimately landing in the wisdom of Buddhist Psychology. But this approach doesn’t align with everyone either.
At Belair Clinic we continue to expand our knowledge around addiction treatment and recovery, and maintain open mindedness and curiosity about all approaches to the problem of addiction.
Below is an article from Bill Wilson, a founding member of AA. A good read to understand his very flexible and openminded approach to recovery.
